Update on Building Project

Oct 14
2 min read

For the last several years, our church family has been praying, planning, and giving toward a significant expansion of our church campus. While this project will include a number of improvements to our facilities, the centerpiece will be a new 1,150-seat worship center. The project will also include additional office space, expanded preschool and children's areas, and additional parking. Altogether, approximately 45,000 square feet of new space will help us better accommodate our growing congregation and continue the mission God has given us to reach our city with the gospel.

Over the last several months, our architect and his team have been working diligently to finalize design details and secure the necessary permits. We are now entering an exciting new phase as our contractor begins requesting bids from subcontractors. This process will take several weeks, and we anticipate receiving a firm construction price by the end of this year.

In January, we plan to present the final construction costs, financing plans, and anticipated timeline to the church for a church-wide vote on moving forward. If approved, we expect to break ground shortly thereafter.

There are three important ways you can help us move this project forward:

  • Pray. Our contractor is a committed Christ-follower who is actively involved in his home church. Throughout his career, he has completed hundreds of church construction projects across the country. In our most recent meeting, he shared that, in his experience, spiritual warfare often intensifies during the period between permitting and construction. Please pray for our contractor and his team as they review bids and select subcontractors. Pray for our church leadership as we seek the right financial partner. And pray for our entire church family as we prepare to enter this exciting new chapter in Northway's history.

  • Give. As we have communicated previously, we have chosen not to pursue a traditional capital campaign to fund this project. Instead, we are making significant monthly transfers from our general fund into our Faith for the Future Fund, while also inviting our church family to contribute as the Lord leads. I am grateful for the generosity so many of you have already demonstrated over the last several years. Please continue to prayerfully consider how you can participate in helping us move this project forward.

  • Recommend. If you know of qualified subcontractors who may be interested in participating in this project, please encourage them to contact Al Sweeney, at als@churchdesign.com or 850-305-0472. Additionally, any financial institutions interested in participating in the financing of this project may contact our CFO, David Bearchell, at dbearchell@northwaychurch.net.

Finally, I want to thank you for your patience throughout this process. I know many of you have been eager to see construction begin, and I share that excitement! This will be the largest construction project in Northway's history, and we have worked carefully to ensure that our plans will serve the growing ministry needs of our church for years to come.

Thank you for your continued prayers, generosity, and faithfulness. I am excited about what God has in store for Northway!

Your Pastor,

Kevin
