Kickoff Sunday

This Sunday, August 9, marks the kickoff of our 2026–2027 church year, and there are several exciting things happening that you won't want to miss!

A New Sermon Series: Counter-Culture

This Sunday, I'll begin a new 16-week sermon series entitled Counter-Culture. Together, we'll journey through Matthew 5–7, studying the Sermon on the Mount and discovering how Jesus calls His followers to think, speak, and live in ways that are radically different from the culture around us.

The Sermon on the Mount has often been called "the greatest sermon ever preached by the greatest preacher who ever lived." I can't wait for our church family to dive into these life-changing words of Jesus together.

Rescue Mission Worship Service Returns

This Sunday also marks the return of our 10:40 a.m. worship service at the Macon Rescue Mission.

We launched this service in August 2025 to help relieve crowding in our 10:30 a.m. worship service while also ministering to men and women at the Rescue Mission who are unable to attend our main campus. The music and message are the same as those on our main campus, making this a wonderful opportunity to worship while helping create additional space for guests.

Welcoming the Mercer Football Team

We are honored to welcome the Mercer University football team and coaching staff to our 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday. It has been several years since we've had the privilege of hosting them, and we are excited to have these young men with us.

Please join me in giving them a warm Northway welcome!

Because of the larger attendance we expect, if you're able, I encourage you to consider attending the 10:40 a.m. Rescue Mission service or sitting in our overflow venue this Sunday. Your flexibility will help us make room for our guests and create a welcoming environment for everyone who attends.

Worship Center Update

I'd also like to share the latest update on our new worship center project.

At this point, we are awaiting site plan approval, which will allow us to submit the building permit plans to the Macon-Bibb County Building Department. Once the plans are submitted, we'll have a much clearer picture of the review timeline with the county and the other agencies involved in the approval process.

One recent development involves our stormwater plans. The Macon Water Authority requested revisions after soil infiltration testing showed that the originally proposed underground retention chambers would not meet current specifications. As a result, our civil engineer is redesigning the plan to include an expanded retention pond.

In addition, the Health Department is reviewing plans for a second kitchen, separate from Cathedral Coffee's kitchen. Those plans are being submitted this week.

While the permitting process has taken longer than we originally anticipated, it has also provided additional time for us to strengthen the financial position of the project.

Because of your faithful generosity, we anticipate paying a significant portion of the construction costs in cash, reducing the amount we will need to finance and saving substantial interest expenses in the years ahead.

Please continue to pray for our contractor, our leadership team, and the many individuals and agencies involved in moving this project forward.

As I travel and talk with others about Northway Church, there is one word I find myself using again and again: faithful.

Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord, to His church, and to one another. It is a privilege to serve as your pastor, and I look forward to all God has in store for us in this new church year.
