If you were able to be with us in worship this past Sunday, you heard me talk about our 6-Week Giving Challenge. If you missed the message, please click here to view on our website. At the end of the message, I challenged all of us to prayerfully consider our giving over the next 6 weeks, and to put the words of Jesus to the test: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21). If we want to develop a bigger heart for God, then giving is a great resource in helping us accomplish this. According to Jesus, our heart will follow our finances.
So, my challenge on Sunday was this: if this principle is brand new to you, and you’ve not given before, then for the next 6 weeks, begin giving something. Take some step in the direction of giving, and see what happens in your life. If you have given, but only in a minimal way, then prayerfully consider giving just a little more. Perhaps you’ve given at the 2% level, then for the next 6 weeks go to 4%. Or if you’ve given at the 4% level, then go to 6%. If you are already a tither (giving at the 10% level), then you already understand the joy of giving and the effect it has on our spiritual lives. If that is you, please also sign up for the 6-week challenge, saying that you will continue doing so.
I was very excited to see that 306 families registered for the giving challenge! That is a tremendous response and I cannot wait to see what God does in our church through so many making this commitment!
If you’ve not had the chance to register, you may click here to sign up for this 6-week challenge. You will receive daily devotions (either by email or text) and other information as well.
This challenge is not about money, but seeing how many people in our church will take this step of faith and trust God with their financial resources. At the end of the day, this is not a financial issue, but a spiritual issue. My hope and prayer is that this challenge will collectively grow our love for and our faith in God. I look forward to hearing stories of the incredible things God does in the lives of individuals and families throughout our church.
This coming Sunday we will continue this series by looking at the characteristics of a generous heart. I look forward to worshipping with you this weekend!
